An article defines or modifies a countable noun. Articles are also used before an adjective that modifies a countable noun.


There are two types of articles:

Indefinite Article – a and an

Definite Article – the


Here, we shall learn about definite article ‘the’.


The definite article ‘the’ is used with both singular and plural countable and uncountable nouns when the noun is specific. The noun referred to is known to the speaker, listener, writer and/or reader.
